Home Learning Summer Term week 1 20/4/20

We hope you have all had a lovely Easter break and have been enjoying your gardens at home! It has been lovely and sunny, and we hope the children have remembered how to be ‘sun safe’. We also hope your children have enjoyed the home learning so far, we know how difficult it may have been for you to do this in an unforeseeable situation and appreciate your support.

This week we are continuing with our topic themes and would like the children to begin the ‘Wonderful Weather’ topic.

For English we would like the children to create a weather diary, observing the weather each day and recording it. We have created a weather diary template for this but please feel free to do this however you would like.

For Topic we would like the children to learn about the seasons and the different types of weather they bring. There is a cut and stick activity you can download for your children to complete, or again, feel free to do a picture/painting to show this. Why not listen to ‘The Four Seasons’ by Vivaldi when you are doing this!

In Maths it is week 1 of Multiplication. You can follow the ‘White Rose’ curriculum online at https://www.whiterosemaths.com/homelearning/  for this, or do the activities we have planned within the document below. Details of how to access White Rose is within this document too.

We have also included some phonics activities for your child to do, please try to do these each week as it will keep the fluency of phonics going for your child. Some of these activities are online but we have also tried to include some fun games to do together. Choose the appropriate level of phonics for your child, if you would like to confirm which phase your child is working at please email the Year 1 team!

We have included a set of spellings for your child to practice. Please practice these, even if your child has already as it will keep embedding them. You could write them using a paintbrush and water on the driveway/pavement/side of the shed. Or on paper as they usually do in their books.

We would urge you to keep reading at home, we appreciate there have been some teething problems with ‘Rising Stars’ but hopefully you are able to access these now. Reading does not always have to be from here though, any reading is helpful, eg reading food boxes/packets, instructions for a recipe, reading a page each/spotting words when reading a bedtime story. It all helps keep a love of reading going.

Finally we would like to reassure you the Year 1 team are contactable during school hours, Monday to Friday. Please get in touch with us to share what your child has been doing, or if you need to ask anything about the home learning, we are here to help as much as we can!
