At Banks Road Infant and Nursery School, through the subject of Design and Technology, we encourage our children to be problem solvers, creative and critical thinkers and inventors. Design and technology is a way for children to learn about the world around them and it links with the whole curriculum, especially Science, ICT and Art. As creative designers, children will learn to plan and design, make and test, evaluate and modify their design showing resilience, independence, pride and perseverance. The children learn, practice, build upon a progression of skills from Nursery through to Year 2 and the children learn technical language and vocabulary. Many activities will be completed through our topic based approach to learning. Our curriculum includes activities that involve woodwork, cooking, sewing and textiles and learning about using a range of tools safely and purposefully.
Implementation
At Banks Road Infant and Nursery School the children participate in Design and Technology whole school TASC days, topic based tasks and year group challenges designed and planned for the children to apply and develop their knowledge and skills both individually and working as a team with others.
